Svetlana Makarova

A sought after artist, Svetlana Makarova is a regular performer at major internationally renowned festivals such as Verbier Festival, Kuhmo Festival, Miyazaki Festival, Paganiniana and many others. She has performed in Tonhalle Zürich, La Scala, la Fenice and la Pergola Theaters, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Seoul Art Center, Tchaikovskiy Hall and others.

Born in Moscow, Svetlana Makarova was a child prodigy: at the tender age of 10 she won the First Prize in the Moscow International Youth Tchaikovsky Competition, and this was followed by many other distinctions. In 2008, having completed her both master and postgraduates studies and having earned her Ph.D. at the Moscow Conservatoire with Prof. M. Glezarova she was invited by L. Maazel to take a position as one of the principal players in the “Palau de Les Artes Reina Sofia” in Spain.

Chamber Music occupies an important place in her career and she collaborates globally with such esteemed musicians as F. Helmerssohn,L.Auerbach,P.Vernikov, N.Gutman, G.Apap,S.Trpčeski,S.Krylov, I.Golan, P.Demenga, F.Biondi to name a few.
She is also an accomplished soloist, having performed with Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica Orchestra, Miyazaki Festival Orchestra, Wüttenberg Philharmonic Orchestra and The Pförzheim Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of Comunidad Valenciana, Korean Soloists Orchestra, Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Odessa State Symphony orchestra, Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Makarova recorded several CDs and was featured in many radio broadcasts.
Passionate about teaching, Svetlana splits her time between performing and sharing her knowledge and artistic experience with young generation of violinists. Among her students are prize winners of many prestigious International Competitions such as “Menuhin International Violin Competition”,«Carl Nielsen Competition», « L. Kogan International Competition »“Ginette Neveu Violin Competition”, “Lausanne interprètes Competition”, and others. Before she became Professor at Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne in 2014 she taught at renowned Gnessin’s College of Music (Moscow), at Scuola di Musica di Fiesole (Florence), Conservatorio Liceu (Barcelona). S.Makarova gives numerous masterclasses in Italy, France, Switzerland, Russia, Austria, Germany, Japan, Korea, China and Honk Kong.
Internationally reclaimed pedagogue she is regularly invited as a member of Jury of International Competitions and awards.
